the weeks are like the weekend now.

I thought I'd do a weekend update...

But then I realized that the week is like the weekend now that I'll be home with Fern.  I don't have to wait until the weekend to get rest and relaxation now...although I do have to wait until Fern decides to sleep to get rest and relaxation, but that's alright with me :).

Here are a few photos from our first week together...

Big yawn!

Meeting Marley.
Marley is still a little unsure of Fern.  Every time she cries Marley starts pacing.
Maybe it's her maternal instinct.

 Sleeping soundly.

Her first lesson in accessorizing.
Headband made by Alison of The Little Tiny and adorable little leg warmers made by my friend Becca.  Fern looks like she's ready for some Jazzercize!

Adoring her daddy.

My first caffeinated mocha in ages courtesy of my wonderful husband.

Posing in her birthday crown made by my preschoolers.

A photo from our first date night.  It was Craig's idea to go see a movie and the grandparents babysat.  Fern did well, and I didn't cry either :).  It was weird going on a real date though, since up until now every night could be date night if we wanted it to be...now it takes a little more planning, but date night will be all that much more special now.

A flower for Fern.

Snoozing the day away.
Basically all she does is eat, sleep and poop.

  3. Ohh she is so cute:) And the coffee, yeah that what something I looked forward too while I was pregnant, the first cup was so great, even though I had been drinking coffee until 2 months before giving birth, I could have continued if it wasn't for the heartburns!
Enjoy your time with Fern, I can't believe my little boy is almost 1...

  4. Fern is precious! The picture of her and her daddy is so sweet!

My husband (who is also named Craig) and I do "date night" every Friday - just dinner out and whatever errands/things we need to do. I hope we can keep it up once our baby is born. Reading this sure gives me hope! :)

  5. What a beautiful little girl! You must be exited beyond words to welcome her into the world and into your family. Congratulations, Mama! (P.S. Your dog is absolutely precious, too. I've got a cat and he just loves german shepherds. Go figure.)

You will find that weekdays and weekends end up being slightly different. It is nice to have daddy home all day on the weekends :)

  11. When I was a baby my parents had a dog named April who LOVED me. She was SUPER protective. I can totally see Marley being the same way with Fern. I bet they'll be best buddies.

  13. I love the picture of her in her birthday crown...the kids will love seeing that! :) Also I'm so impressed that you went caffeine-less the whole
time...I can barely handle a day without! It's great that you guys are starting date nights right off the bat...Fern will have such a great example of parents that love eachother! It will definitely be easier for her to be away from you guys for longer periods of time later on too :)

  14. Such a love-filled week:-) And hooray for getting a date night already...we did that within the 1st week too. Went out for coffee/Target/Trader Joes run while the grandparents swooned over the Bean. I like that date nights are super special now! xoxo

  18. Lauren I seem to always tend to think newborns all look alike/ arn't cute until they get older.. so being completely honest- she is adorable!! Such a cute baby!!! I'm sooo happy for you and would love to get together and talk someday when I'm pregnant about going natural. I've always wanted to for at least the first one!! Congrats on creating such a beauty!! :)

  19. She is beautiful! Just beautiful. Love her little yawn. :)

Also, I read your birth story & I really really want to do that. Every time i read a story of a natural birth, I am so inspired & hopeful. I really hope i can do it w/o meds (when the time comes!). ;)

  20. I know they say that babies that young can't smile, but whoever "they" are are liars. She's totally smiling in that picture with her and Craig.
