I'll preface this post by clarifying that its title is quite facetious.
We had maybe the most low key New Year's ever.
But, it was still fun.
I went home sick from work on Friday with a nasty stomach bug.
(*side note: pukey stomach flu while 37 weeks pregnant = not cool).
I seriously thought I was going to die - I don't think I've ever felt so sick in my life.
There was definitely some of this happening,
although not a lot because I felt too sick to eat most of the day.
But, somehow I mustered up an appetite to have a chocolate hazelnut milkshake from Burgerville - specially delivered by my super sweet husband. Totally well-rounded dinner in my book.
And then, the next morning....
I woke up miraculously cured!!
It was the strangest thing. I felt like I had never even been sick.
But, we still laid low for the day and spent our New Year's with the Hardesty's baking cookies and drinking sparkling pear cider and watching Super 8 (which side note was surprisingly good - kind of like a "modern day version of 'Goonies'" in Becca's words).
I did have fun living vicariously through everyone else and their sparkly sequin studded champagne filled New Year's celebrations on Instagram, although truth be told I was more than a little jealous since I really do adore champagne and sequins. But...there's always next year :). For now, this New Year's was just what the doctor ordered.
I also made a few simple resolutions for 2012 that you can read over at Babble if you're so inclined
(read them here)
How did you spend your New Year's?
Did you make any resolutions for yourself?

How awesome was it that you got better just in time for the new year??? :D
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to know we weren't the only "party animals" out there. But that milkshake seems like it'd make up for all the party losses....do want.
I'm glad you're feeling better! We had a kids' new years party from 6-9 on New Year's Eve, then we were home and in bed by 10! lol! :) Happy New Year! :)

happy twenty 12! glad you're feeling better :)
ReplyDeleteOh no thats horrible you were sick but great you were miraculously cured! I actually really liked super 8 too! Here's to a great 2012!
ReplyDeleteMy New Year's was much like yours! We just had a couple of friends over, made dinner, played games and watched a couple of the NYE celebrations on TV. I'm pregnant too though so maybe next year will be a bit more exciting! Although I do have to say that I wouldn't change anything about this year's celebration.
ReplyDeleteyummy, sparkling pear cider sounds delicious. My boyfriend and i stayed in for the fist time this year as well. glad you have a wonderful new year.
ReplyDeleteMilkshakes make EVERYTHING better. Glad you're on the mend, friend!
ReplyDeleteFor New Years we hung out at home. Jeremy played video games and I finished reading Mindy Kaling's new book while Pearl played. Then we took the whole family for a drive (dogs included) and came home with Blizzards. The fact that we made it past midnight was more than I expected to happen so it was a success!
ReplyDeleteFunny, we watched Super 8 on NYE too. We are definitely party animals around here =)
ReplyDeleteours was the most low key event of all time: made a guest appearance at my parent's party, counted down with Dick Clark, and mainly oogled over Baby Bean. Sparkles and champagne next year, for sure:-) xoxo
ReplyDeleteMy NYE was nice and quiet, exactly the way I wanted it to be.
ReplyDeleteso sorry you were so sick but glad you were healed in time for new years!! still sounds like a good night to me and just think, next year you'll have a little baby to deck in sequins ;)
ReplyDeleteHey! I'm a new follower of yours :) Your blog is precious...and yes, Super 8 was totally a modern day Goonies...in fact I said that to my husand during the movie! Glad you're feeling better and happy happy new year!

I think our NYE was more low key, haha! Jen and I drank wine, played one of our favorite computer games (World of Warcraft) and fell asleep early from too much wine. :P
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're feeling better!!!
It sounds like you had a wonderful New Year's. We had a low-key evening as well. Best wishes for 2012.

I set goals to get healthy this year. A little predictable, but that's really what I need to focus on! I also want to take so many more pictures and videos, I think my future self will thank me. :-)
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with a low-key night. And I totally agree with you on Super 8 - surprisingly good. I thought it was going to be super lame haha
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh i had the same stomach bug! but it came to me on jan 1. and i honesty wondered if that's what "morning sickness" felt like. never been pregnant so i can't compare. glad you're feeling better though!
