Lately I've been thinking a lot about the people I surround myself with and I've been thinking a lot about this quote.
I've encountered both of these kinds of people recently:
the inspiring kind and the draining kind.
I've realized who my real and true friends are. These are the ones who I can be open, honest and vulnerable with. The friends who I can share the most unlovely parts of my life with and know that they will still love me and won't judge my shortcomings. The kind of friends where it doesn't matter if you're in a different season of life or if you disagree about certain issues or if you don't see each other for a few months, because your friendship has a way of always picking up where it left off and finding common ground. These are the friends who encourage me to be the best version of myself and I leave their presence feeling inspired. These are the people I want to invest more time in.
There are also those people who are simply draining. Those people that take and take and take. The people who sit and wait for their next turn to talk and never truly listen to what you have to say. The friends who take advantage of your kindness and put you in uncomfortable situations without regard for your feelings. The friends who spend time with you only when it's convenient for them. The friends who only want the best parts of you and nothing more. The friends where it always feel like work when you hang out and when you come away you feel drained. I've decided that life is too short to waste time with people like these.
Today I am thankful for the friends and family
in my life who inspire me.
