So...I've been realizing that I spend a lot of time reading design/craft/DIY blogs, and I got to thinking that since I'm getting so many great ideas from other people's blogs, that maybe I should start my own to share some of my ideas too. On top of that it will be a fun way to show off some of the projects Craig's gotten done on the house and little crafty things I make. I'll probably also talk about other things that excite me, like fashion, food, etc...
I guess I'll start by posting a couple of pictures of a party I hosted on Friday. It was a lingerie shower/Bachelorette party for my friend Casey. I was super excited about all the little crafts I did for the decor.
This was the main spread. The color scheme was yellow, gray and black.
I usually have a painting Craig made for our wedding hanging here, but it didn't go with the color scheme, so I covered the canvas with a yellow table cloth I had that I got at a thrift store. I spelled out Casey's name on scrapbook paper circles and clothespinned them from the hanging twine.
Flower arrangement on the cheap: yellow sunflowers from the grocery store, and I mixed in some daisies and Queen Anne's lace that I found in an empty lot near my gym. Most of the vases were Ball canning jars that I saved from my wedding. The table cloth was oil cloth I got from the fabric store...great for wiping up spills & totally matched the theme.
Plates, bowls and platters were perfect and free since I got them from Craig's grandma ages ago, but never had a reason to use them.
I filled up vases with lemon drops, Jordan almonds, lemons, and peppermints. I wish I had a close-up of the peppermints. I individually wrapped each one with yellow paper and then tied each end with black and white gingham ribbon. Oh man.
I don't know if anyone at the party actually noticed the branches on top of my shelf, but I was pretty excited about them. I found them in my yard and painted them yellow & I think they turned out pretty cute.
The final spread. We had pinapple rum punch, sparkling lemonade, a Mediterranean pita platter, fruit skewers, spinach dip, and vanilla cupcakes with lemon frosting and coconut. I even made little flags for the cupcakes that said "C + J" on them :). I think I need to host another party soon, because this was fun excuse to craft and it got my creative juices flowing.
